Goal Setting

Usually people seek out the support of a Life Coach have a goal in mind.  You may want to change one area of your life, and as you take the necessary steps, you may find that other areas are connected might also need some thinking through.

Setting a goal is the process in which you take back control in your life by thinking of the big picture, then shrinking it down again into smaller steps that will get you there.  Goals put you back in the driver’s seat and separate you from external expectations and pressure to direct outcomes you have no power over.

Goal setting is about making a plan that is:

  • Do-able
  • Measurable
  • Driven by your values
  • Inspirational enough to carry you through the obstacles along the way

How To Set Goals   With your own pair of eyes, a solution may seem evident, but with the expertise and skilled questions of a Life coach, you may find yourself thinking outside the box and see other possibilities.

Important aspects of goal setting:

  • Access to a positive and supportive environment to explore your feelings around the situation
  • Weighing the pros and cons of the decision thoroughly to decide what you really want
  • Weigh the risks by separating the facts from intensified feelings
  • Identify the values driving what’s really important so you make a goal that makes sense
  • Learning to motivate yourself along the way.  There WILL be times when it seems easier to settle or even quit.
  • Celebrate small movements of change that will lead to larger scale successes.

How To Achieve Goals   A key factor of people who reach their goals is self- confidence. Self-confidence grows with every new risk you take in moving toward your goal.  Deciding on a crystal-clear plan of action and small goals to get you there is the first step, and walking them out is often the more challenging part that can be shortened with the help of  an experienced Life Coach.

Setting A Goal   In order to make achieving your goal worthwhile, setting up your goals in the most fail-proof way includes not only the cognitive planning, but also discussing doubts, uncovering assumptions, identifying obstacles and brainstorming different options than you’ve considered before.

Goal-Setting Questions:

  • What happened that I am I here?
  • What discomfort am I trying to relieve?
  • What do I want?
  • If I changed this area would it give me what I’m looking for?
  • What actions do I need to take?
  • What is blocking me from getting there?
  • How will I measure that I’ve reached my goal?
  • What help do I need?
