How do I find a Coach?

Finding the right coach has to do with finding a personality fit that ‘clicks’ as well as finding a coach that has expertise in the area you are seeking support with.  Here are a few steps, as you begin your pursuit that will make your search a little easier:

  • Think about your needs.  What kind of coaching partnership would you thrive under best… gentle, dynamic, strong, direct, humorous?
  • Define your goals.  What is the end result you’d like to reach through coaching?
  • Read up on the coach. Look for their website and any other information retrieved from a Google search.
  • Interview 1-3 coaches
  • Prepare a short list of questions to ask each coach  Interview Questions for picking a Life Coach
  • Ask about the Coach’s philosophy, training and types of clients they see
  • Take notes and compare each coach you interview
  • Try the coach’s suggestions. Even if it doesn’t seem relevant, try what each coach suggests.  You may be surprised to find a particular method works.

 

How do I pick a coach?  Most coaches offer a free consultation to see if you have a good fit. To get the most from your time, bring a specific challenge you are facing and ask the coach to give you a sample of their coaching. After the call ask yourself:

  • Did the coach listen and understand me?
  • How was the energy on the call?
  • Do I feel inspired by this coach’s approach?
  • In what ways did I find a new angle of dealing with my situation?
  • Did I feel a warm rapport and connection with this coach?

 

What if I can’t afford a coach?   This is a common feeling. Life Coaching is an investment in you. Think of it this way, what has it cost you to stay stuck in the same way you’ve been doing things? What has your familiar cycle of trying and failing, trying and failing cost you in regards to your health, relationships, passion for living, and even finding peace with yourself? There is value in the way you spend your money.
